I have been having a lot of annoying with the latest ubuntu… Help is welcome: A list of some of the annoyances: Printing to print-server that requires samba authentication. This worked fine in 11.04 and 10.04.. In 11.10 it never authenticated. In the end I had to use a custom backend that uses smbclient directly. read more

installing ubuntu 11.10 on pandaboard

First get the image here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/OMAP (panda board wiki is not up2date). Installation at some point will trigger an X crash and reset.. (so you have to start over again configuring..) this goes into an endless loop. I tried ubuntu 11.10 beta on my laptop (amd k345 + 6 gig ram) and it been a really disappointing trip. (I don’t have time write a long story, so bulletpoints for now) Pro’s: Looks better. lightDM looks nice. Unity feels more polished then in previous version. Gnome 3 multi monitor support is _really_ bad. One of the things is that the secondary monitor only has one virtual desktop. To make it behave more like 1 large desktop (so a virtual desktop spreads over both monitors), disable the following setting in gconf editor: /desktop/gnome/shell/windows/workspaces_only_on_primary This makes things a slight bit more doable. read more

How do I make gnome dim the backlight when on battery? I used to be able todo this. How do I set gtk3 theme outside of gnome3? (in gnome 3 you seem to be able todo it with gnome-tweak-tool).
