Well not really, GMPC is a niche product (MPD client) while banshee is an all round desktop music (media?) player.
But playing with it I did notice some things:
- It is a lot faster for large collections then it used to be.
- The large album view (all the small cover art) is still slow scrolling.
- When converting music (to copy to mp3 player) it only uses one core. (but we have so many nowadays)
- When a conversion is done, and it starts copying it to the device, the whole interface blocks for a few second. This repeats for each songs. Very very annoying.
- Memory usage is better, it managed to stay under 200 mbyte.
- I can see me using this more often.
