Would you mind if I remove rating from GMPC.

When cirrus added sticker support to MPD, I added a basic ‘rating’ support to GMPC. But I never used it and I know nobody who does.
So I would like to remove it!
But if it turns out people use it, like it, want to keep it, I probly leave it.

So to get some idea, I have added a poll to my blog, please go there, and vote.

I always thought the 5-star rating is too complicated, I never use it, whatever the music player.

For me, the perfect rating is the “Hu! I loooove that song!” and “Don’t even dare to play that song again”.
The gap between both is the usual music, doesn’t need to be rated, just listened, that’s all.

    hello,

this is something i would like to use , but i doesn’t use it :
because i can’t directly search for sticker values or value ranges, so the interest is limited

i’m heavily use rating for my music collection, but i had to use another tool for that
in ideal world i’d like to create multicriteria playlist (genre-rating-years ….) with gmpc
so i vote “yes, why not”

I would like to use it. But i also use it very less, because there is no search function or integration in media browser. Maybe the reason because most doesn’t use it.

In this context also a counting or last played function it interesting. Which i would really use if sorting after it would be possible.

I heavily used ratings in Amarok before I went to mpd.
I used this feature in gmpc extensively for the last few weeks, hoping that it would become usable in the near future. This means, I RATED about 500 songs.
But what can I do about these ratings? I have to play the song or change the rating to see the actual rating…

To really make sense there would have to be a few more features:
    - an additional column in the playlist where the stars are displayed (+ the “favourite” icon)
    - sorting, searching and filtering after rating (range)
    - rating many songs at once,
    - rating whole albums or bands

Is there a way to export the ratings out of the stickers DB when the feature is cancelled (sqlite always says: “encrypted…”)?

@samfuzz: What other tool did you use? THX!

Problem is, that implementing rating properly is not possible with MPD. for example I would have todo an extra query for each row in the playlist just to display it as a column, that would be slow.

I understand, thanks. Looks like it would have to be implemented in the server itself.
My quest for the perfect “Music playing, rating and suggestion system” will go on…

agree with aji, either you love a track (and want to be able to see it in some favorites list) or you hate it and don’t want to hear it again

Lack of a usable/searchable rating feature is the only thing stopping me from using GMPC. Currently using Quod Libet.
