There are 2 problems with running mpd on my beagleboard.

1. The USB (usb-to-go) is really unreliable. It causes kernel lock-ups when to much data is transferred. This is a known issue. I guess it would be better on the rev. C4 that has EHCI port.
2. The onboard soundcard is crappy, so an usb soundcard is needed. (The onboard is integrated in the power management chip.....)

Having an usb network card + soundcard was not working. After several minutes->hours the usb port would stop functioning.

The beagleboard is more then fast enough to run mpd. _easily_. You an get mpd from the repositories, and will run fine.

Hi Qball,

Just read your post, I was wondering why you found BeagleBoard + mpd unreliable. I'm planning to build
such a setup, so I'm very interested in your experiences.

How about the sound quality on the BB ?

Thanks,
Pika

Qball, I have a question about using iPeng with Squeezebox Classic. If I install the IR Blaster, will I be able to control my home theater speaker system from the iPeng app on my phone without my computer having to be on?
Thanks,
Tato

Qball,

Any way to get the SB Classic to act as a display for MPD? This would be the best of both worlds, no?

In my case the player is based in my living-room and the server is on another floor. The point is that I use the server/player to listen to my music in the living-room. In my study I can use my desktop. And yes..that means I have 2 copies of my music. One on the server & one on my desktop. But that seems fine in case some hardware crash ruins my collection.
