Quality of soundcards

I often make the remark that soundcards in laptops/motherboards are bad. F.e. I say “It does not perform better then 12 bit”. Dmix, the pain or MPD High cpu usage

At mpd we are having an issue with high cpu usage, this started when alsa decided to use the great dmix by default. We now know this is caused by resampling.
