GTodo 2 testing.

I just realized I never posted the svn repository needed for testing gtodo2.
So here it is:

svn co https://gtodo.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gtodo gtodo2

Ui wise, gtodo is getting pretty close to a good usable point. The code however needs some cleanup, I hope to have some time for this next week, and release a first pre-release.

  1. Why not use an SQLite database for tasks?  Also, what are the goals of this project?  Aren’t there many already?

  2. Why write another one? well it is a rewrite of gtodo1. (I also wrote). And even gtodo2 has been around for a long time (years, if I look back in my backups).
And I haven’t found another task manager that I liked. (yeah I am crazy that way).

You can easily add an sqlite backend, the backends are abstracted (gtodo2 has 2 backends at the moment).
Why I don’t have an sqlite backend is mostly that I had added an xml backend out of “history” value (gtodo1 used xml). And I have added an flat-file-db backend because it allows me to sync 2 computer using unison and have a fairly good “merge” of the tasks.

I love gtodo1 and I am just waiting for version 2 to become stable, fast and everything as soon as possible. I am using gtodo more as my own very light-weight issue tracker for all the bugs, questions or general issues my external customers are raising. Sometimes I have to add a lot of text into the comments field of a task which makes the list view a bit hard to read.

I have seen people using Omni Outliner on a Mac in a very similar way and I quite liked it. It would be nice if the summary would show only a snippet of the last comment put against a task. That way you could have a full overview of many task without having to open or click on each one.

  4. I know I still have to make a release, but there is are so many things todo, and so many other interesting things.

Gtodo2 should be stable enough, I (and others) use it on a daily basis.

This is a great improvement over the previous incarnation of gtodo, but I was wondering if you were going to be adding more features? The ability to print a task list would be very useful for one :)

  6. Yes printing is on the todo. I shamefully just have to little time and to many projects to work on.
    Help is appreciated.

I have just start using Gtodo 0.16.0 !! I like the app however I was wondering whether you can tell me how to modify Gtodo so that it only displays only one window (restores a minimized window) ??

    Thankyou.

  8. gtodo 1 is not developed or maintained anymore.

Thanks for the info!! When is the projected release date for Gtodo2??

    Thankyou.

  10. I kind of low on time, and it got prioritized to the bottom.

  11. Looks great! However, I noticed there is no gettext translation support. Are you not going to make this fantastic app translatable? :(

I f I find the time to work on it more, I will.

  13. I’ll be definitely looking forward to it!

  14. where can I download gtodo?

  15. You can only get an svn checkout at the moment. (of gtodo2).
There are other, very nice, todo clients available, f.e. http://live.gnome.org/Tasque.

though I use gtodo2 daily, I never got around finishing it up to be release ready. sorry, i am only one person.

    Hi!

I like gtodo (I don’t know how to make gtodo2 run on ubuntu though…),
but I would like to let you know what my wishes are for future releases:

    1.) sub-categories
2.) task belongs to more than only one category
3.) drag tasks with mouse to other category
4.) mark more than only one task in list (e.g. to delete several tasks
at once) 5.) priorities for categories and tasks with colors

Please let me know if this is already included in gtodo2!

    Kindest regards and many thanks,
    Jun Keller
